RTX 4070 TI SUPER – Available on the 24th of January 2024, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 TI SUPER comes in with an MSRP of $799.99. It is the most interesting of the 3 GPUs announced today, as it not only offers around 10% increase in with its 8448 CUDA core count, but the RTX 4070 TI SUPER 16GB VRAM offers a 33% increase in VRAM previous RTX 4070 TI 12GB making it future proofed for the latest AAA titles.

Recommended CPU for CoD: MW III (2023)

The processor, also known as the CPU, is the most important part of your gaming PC. For Modern Warfare III, we recommend going with either the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D or Ryzen 9 7900X3D. Both of these processors can handle the game's requirements with ease, with great multi-tasking capability for streaming Modern Warfare III on Twitch through applications like OBS.

AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D series features AMD’s exclusive 3D V-cache technology, improving gaming performance, with on average lower power usage vs Intel i9-13900K based on benchmarks for the current Call of Duty Modern Warfare II (2022). This means lower temps, better FPS.

Recommended GPU for CoD: MW III (2023)

Whilst not officially confirmed by Activision yet, Call of Duty Modern Warfare III will require at least an NVIDIA RTX 4070 for 4K 60 FPS with medium to high settings. It offers great price to performance, with support for NVIDIA DLSS 3.0, the RTX 4070 is ideal for getting a great gaming experience in 1440P or 4K at 60 FPS.

Currently Modern Warfare II (2022) does not support ray tracing technology post launch, so it's likely that Call of Duty Modern Warfare III (2023) will also not support ray tracing, given the franchises focus on maximum FPS.

How much RAM for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III?

For Call of Duty Modern Warfare III (2023), we recommend 32GB RAM if you’re planning to use the hi-res assets, if you’re looking to play in Ultra 4K with high-res settings we recommend a minimum of 64GB RAM based on the requirements for Call of Duty Modern Warfare II (2023).

RAM

For Diablo IV, Blizzard is the first AAA dev to recommend a minimum of 32GB of RAM for playing Diablo IV in 4K ultra settings. If you’re running a system with 16GB RAM currently, enabling DLSS 2.0 or 3.0 will help to reduce the requirements considerably.

Storage

Here are the top 5 things you should know about gaming on Windows 11

5 - A Second Update is Coming

The current Windows 11 22H2 update is set to launch in the fall of 2022 after Insider Build bugs have been fixed. However, despite Windows 11 not being widely available yet, Microsoft is already planning the 23H2 update, another major one codenamed 'Sun Valley 3' or ‘Copper’. It’s currently estimated to be released by the end of 2023.

According to Windows Latest, references to this new update have been discovered in the latest preview builds. It looks to focus on touch improvements for tablet devices, rivaling Apple in that corner of the market.

4 - Auto HDR For PC Gamers

If you’re a fan of Xbox gaming, you may have heard about Auto HDR. Windows 11 is porting over this popular feature, which means any game that supports it will be able to deploy the benefits of a high dynamic range automatically. 3 - The Introduction of Direct Storage to PC

As announced in a recent dev blog post by Microsoft, "Windows games can ship with DirectStorage." In the blog, Microsoft explains that this system will optimize modern games' data loading methods. The company claims that with DirectStorage, "games can quickly load assets to the graphics card without bogging down the CPU." With this feature, users can expect improvements to game performance and loading. With Windows 11, you'll need an NVMe SSD to store and play the games and a DirectX 12 GPU with shader model 6.0 support.

2 - Game Pass is Going to Be Built In

Windows 11 is certainly taking a lot of inspiration from the wide range of Xbox benefits. Xbox Game Pass will now be integrated within Windows 11, which is undoubtedly music to anyone's ears as PC gamers can begin to move away from the buggy Xbox app. Hopefully, this should reduce the number of corrupted game files and random problems. With the number of games added to Game Pass every month, including some of the most current releases on day one, this is certainly a flagship offering.

1 - Gaming on Windows 11 Requires a TPM 2.0 Chip

If you want to run Windows 11, your PC will need a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 chip. This is because Microsoft focuses on improving security across the new operating system. Features like Windows Hello for identity protection and BitLocker for data protection are looking at major improvements.

So, what’s a TPM chip?

A TPM chip sits on your CPU or motherboard. It’s a physical cryptoprocessor that, put simply, uses a cryptographic key to protect your data. NVIDIA RTX 4000 Release Date Rumors

At the time of writing, there is no official RTX 4000 release date. However, that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from turning online!

According to the official NVIDIA architecture roadmap, Ampere Next (codename Ada Lovelace) is currently planned for a 2022 release. NVIDIA also believes that ‘Ampere Next Next’ (thought to be the RTX 5000) will be released in 2024.

Notable leaker Kopite7kimi suggests we may see the ‘Ada Lovelace’ release in early Q3.

If the rumored Q3 2022 RTX 4000 release date is to be believed, it will mark two years since the release of the RTX 3000 series. This would line up with historical NVIDIA release dates, as the NVIDIA consumer-grade microarchitecture has been seeing release dates in two-year increments for over a decade now.

NVIDIA RTX 4000 Specs and Benchmark Rumors

As with a majority of related information, there is no official confirmation on the RTX 4000 specs or benchmark performance. Unfortunately, in February 2022, a massive data breach occurred at NVIDIA, leaking much information about the RTX 4000. The group that claims to have performed the attack leaked highly confidential information about the GPU drivers. This information is currently not public knowledge, so it’s always best to wait on official confirmation from NVIDIA and not support such database attacks.

Hardware leakers harukaze5719, xinoassassin1 and kopite7kimi, have summarized critical specifications of desktop GPUs, which can be seen below.

It suggests 18,432 CUDA cores, which is approximately 70% more than the RTX 3000. Furthermore, it has been suggested that the L2 memory cache is a big focus for the company. If rumors are to be believed, the RTX 4090 card could max out at 96MB of L2 cache, meaning the RTX 4000 series graphics cards could provide nearly double the speed of RTX 3000.

3D Center’s December leaks support this, but it’s always best to wait on official confirmation from NVIDIA and not support such attacks on databases.

It’s important to remember that such performance increases often lead to the need for higher levels of power draw. Some reports claim that components using the AD-102 could have a TGP of up to 900W. This means more electricity will be required to power this beast, costing you more money.

How Much Will the New Tech Cost?

NVIDIA is keeping its lips sealed on the MSRP of the RTX 4000. However, we can use past GPU prices to make an educated guess. The RTX 3080 and 70 were priced at $699 and $499, respectively, so we hope the pricing remains consistent. The RTX 3090 cost around $1,499 at launch, which would be a fair price for the RTX 4090. But it's worth remembering that the RTX 3090 Ti is approximately $1,999, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the price of new tech reach similar peaks.

With the silicone shortage still raging on, it will no doubt be tough to get your hands on this incredible tech at launch. The highly-anticipated Battle For Texas was the first live and in-person Overwatch League event in North America since the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020, so we made sure to kick it off in style! We decked out the TechPort Center’s brand new esports area, primed and ready for Overwatch teams Dallas Fuel and the Houston Outlaws to battle it out on our premium water-cooled systems.

The fifth season of the Overwatch League will be very different from what fans have come to expect. True fans will appreciate seeing the competition play out in various maps from Overwatch 1. However, this season will be played on a beta build of Overwatch 2, in a new five-vs-five format. We got a look at the new maps, heroes, and even the new ‘Push’ game mode. When Will Warzone 2 Drop?

At the moment of writing, Activision and Infinity Ward have not yet committed to a firm release date. However, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has suggested a rough release window for Warzone 2. He stated that Activision was committed to releasing at least the next three Call of Duty games on PlayStation, even after the recent $68.7 billion Xbox acquisition.

Schreier said this would include Call of Duty 2022, 2023, and Warzone 2, which he then suggested would be released in 2023. If this release window turns out to be accurate, it will mark three years since Warzone’s initial release.

This Warzone 2 info may suggest it's not all been smooth sailing in terms of development. Previously, industry insider Tom Henderson claimed to have heard the game was scheduled for a "Holiday 2022" release.

What Platforms Will Warzone 2 Release On?

Activision has not officially committed to a list of supported platforms. The company released Warzone across both last-gen and current-gen consoles back in 2020. However, the ‘follow-up’ to the beloved battle royale may very well change that.

Whilst PC gamers probably have nothing to fear, Henderson has suggested that Warzone may only be in development for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles and may also include no past weapon integrations.

“Wait, No Weapons Integration?”

Yes, you heard us right. Major gameplay changes could be on the way if these rumors from Tom Henderson are to be believed. You could be saying goodbye to all your favorite weapons from Vanguard, Black Ops Cold War, Modern Warfare, and its 2022, Modern Warfare 2. If true, this could be a huge departure from the regular Warzone updates fans have come to expect.

What’s noteworthy is that, so far, Warzone 2 has only been described as an “experience.” Activision and Infinity Ward have steered clear of confirming whether the new free-to-play game will be an update, a new game, or a full sequel. They have confirmed that it will have "groundbreaking innovations," but that could mean anything at this stage.

Does all this Warzone 2 info sound too good to be true? Well, we should definitely take these reports with a pinch of salt until Activision and Infinity Ward officially confirm them. Despite reporting on it, Henderson has questioned the existence of this battle royale ‘sequel’ alongside credible leaker MW2 Ghost.

At the 6:20 mark of a recent YouTube upload, Tom Henderson says:

“From what I've been told by these developers, they hadn't heard this (Warzone 2). Especially the Infinity Ward developers that are involved in the Warzone map in some capacity, that they just didn't hear about Warzone 2 until the report came out.”

“The interesting thing is that they had a company-wide meeting before Christmas to say that their Warzone map is going to be the clean slate that comes to Warzone”.

What Does This Mean For Warzone 2?

The video continues to speculate that this insider information could suggest that Warzone 2 is not yet in development but could be soon. Despite this, Activision Blizzard claimed during its 2022 Q1 financial report that the development of its new Warzone game "is proceeding very well." Again, a pinch of salt is a given here.

What is certain is that the development of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone Season 3 are keeping Activision Blizzard and Infinity Ward plenty busy. It has been confirmed that Warzone 2 will be “built from the ground up” within an entirely new engine. This will include a “play space and new sandbox mode.” More information could be coming our way at the Summer Game Fest 2022 and Gamescom 2022.

New top-of-the-line components, such as the RTX 3000-series, promised higher-fidelity graphics and smoother performance. This is, of course, the perfect proposition for PC gamers chasing the heart-pulsing, ultimate gaming experience. The interest in these brand-new GPUs has also attracted many resellers. If you're struggling to find any on the market, chances are your GPU could be in the pocket of a reseller who buys up existing stock and artificially inflates the prices.

Unfortunately, this has recently made owning a top-of-the-line GPU almost impossible for gamers with limited budgets. However, it might not be all bad news! Research conducted by Tom’s Hardware in March 2022 suggests that GPU prices may be starting to deflate. This correlates with a dip in cryptocurrency profitability, the global easing of coronavirus restrictions, and since the leading cryptocurrency, Ethereum, is preparing to move away from GPU mining.

What Do the Experts Think?

The research comes from Jarred Walton at Tom's Hardware and analyst Jon Peddie from Graphic Speak. Recent and historical AMD and NVIDIA GPU prices from January 2022 suggest that GPUs have recently come down in pricing by approximately 10%. This is certainly a substantial cut, but it is worth remembering that the RTX 3050 and RTX 6500 XT launched in early 2022, which means their prices never peaked as the higher-end models did in 2021.

It’s still not quite as low as NVIDIA’s $699 manufacturer-suggested retail price (MSRP). However, the RTX 3080 currently sells for between $1,200 and $1,300, on average. It peaked at around $1,800, meaning the GPU price has been reduced by nearly a third in a matter of months.

Looking for a budget-friendly GPU option? The only card to track close to its MSRP of $199 is the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT. According to Peddle, it currently sells for approximately $220. Judging by the less-than-average reviews, it’s hardly a surprise that suppliers struggled to shift this card amidst a global shortage.

Will GPU Prices Ever Go Back to Normal?

In his research, Peddie blames “miners, speculators, and gougers” for the excessive price increases over the past few months. With the development of GPU technology showing no signs of stopping, nobody knows for sure whether prices will start to spike again or whether the MSRP will rise to match these inflated prices.

With NVIDIA launching their brand new 3090 Ti and rumors about AMD’s new GPU circling the internet, now is an excellent time to start subscribing to GPU stock alerts once again. Will the current-gen models stay at such high prices, or will the introduction of newer models bring the price down again? Maybe gamers will eventually refuse to pay for the reseller's inflated prices and leave them with inventory they can’t sell.

Only time will tell.

How Powerful Is the AMD RX 6X50XT Series?

Officially confirmed information about the AMD 6750XT & 6950XT is surprisingly scarce. We weren’t joking when we said AMD was keeping their secrets safe. There have been multiple reports that claim AMD plans to drop the Radeon RX 6x50 boards in 2022, but no official confirmation currently exists.

It would make sense for the RX 6950XT to compete with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. For the ‘mid-range’ RX 6750XT, the upcoming Intel Arc A780 model seems like the best comparison.

Previous leaks suggest that the biggest difference between the rumored 6X50XT series and the RX 6700 XT is GDDR6 memory with an 18 gigatransfers per second (GT/s) data transfer rate (vs. 16 GT/s). This would give the RX 6750 XT up to 12.5% more memory bandwidth, meaning you’ll be able to experience higher-quality graphics quicker. This would also presumably lead to increased power consumption as a result.

What Evidence Is There?

There is certainly a lot of evidence that suggests these new graphics cards will be released in the relatively near future. The well-known hardware investigator, @harujaze6179, recently claimed that the upper mid-range model RX 6750 XT has been filed to the South Korean National Radio Research Agency (RRA) database. He says that the card is officially designated the ‘PowerColor RX 6750 XT Devil D6 12GB’, which suggests it will have 12GB of GDDR6 memory.

When Can I Get the RX 6X50XT Series?

At first, AMD reportedly intended to release the Radeon RX 6750 XT, Radeon RX 6950 XT and Radeon RX 6650 XT boards in late April 2022. At the time of writing, there is no current official word on a specific launch time frame. However, according to Videocardz, the launch of the AMD 6750X & 6950X has been delayed from April 20th to May 10th. Of course, this is from an unconfirmed source, so take it with a pinch of salt for now. Hopefully, you won’t have to wait too long to add it to your rig!

How Much Will It Cost?

As with scarce information on the upcoming AMD Radeon flagship graphics cards, official details about the price tag are also remaining a mystery for now. Despite the online-grapevine rumors circling around, there is currently no confirmed price set for the RX 6X50XT series. However, according to Twitter user, @momomo_us, an Australian retailer recently listed the RX 6950XT graphics card for 3,241 AUD, which works out to about 2,400 USD.

The retailer has now taken down this listing and replaced it with an error message. They state that the product has been “temporarily removed” from their catalog. It’s possible that it was a placeholder or a fabricated link.

However, @momomo_us claims that the product code displayed in the images they posted aligns with a leak from the Eurasian Economic Commission regulatory office. Anyhow, we think it’s best to wait for official confirmation on pricing.

We all want faster, cooler, quieter and quicker performance, and that’s best achieved with liquid cooling solutions. But some of you may still be wondering where to begin or how to maintain a liquid cooled PC, so here’s our helpful guide on how to keep your liquid cooled PC running smoothly.

What Do I Need For Liquid Cooled PC Maintenance?

Liquid cooling maintenance can often seem like a daunting task. The idea of something going wrong with a water system near your PC isn’t exactly an ideal scenario. Fortunately, by following this guide, you’ll be able to keep your system in perfect condition.

Don't forget - a Closed Loop System doesn’t require maintenance. These units are designed to be maintained by the providers only and you should always consult the manufacturer's website before attempting any form of the maintenance yourself.

If you have an Open Loop System, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with all the main parts that make a liquid cooling system, and those are the radiator and the fan, the coolant, the water block and the water pump.

So, now that we know some of the basics, let’s see what’s needed for upkeep on these parts!

“Where Should I Start?”

A good place to start when maintaining your liquid cooled system is with the radiator. Its fins help to spread the coolant across your PC, keeping your components icy-cold. However, it’s easy for dust to gather as the fans whirr. So, in order to keep your fans and radiator performing optimally, it’s best to use either compressed air or a paintbrush to gently remove any dust build-up from the blades.

Next on our list is the pump - the heart of every liquid cooling loop. It’s the component that pushes the distilled water around the system and keeps your components icy-cool. Whilst the pump won’t need regular maintenance, it’s a good idea to run distilled water through your PC for a coolant flush every year or so. This will keep the loop clean and smooth-looking.

As you do this, you can clean the water block as well. To reduce oxidation and dust buildup, you can disassemble it and soak it in a dissolvable solution. Some recommend a 50/50 vinegar and distilled water solution, but if your cooling loop is nickel-plated, make sure you avoid vinegar and stick with distilled water as it can destroy your finish.

How To Flush Your System

Moving on to the inside of your water-cooled system.

Every year or so, it’s a good idea to perform something called a system flush. This process will help your machine perform optimally and involves draining your coolant into a waste container and replacing it with fresh new coolant. To minimize corrosion of your computer parts, it’s highly recommended that you use distilled water in this process.

Finally, the coolant.

Coolant is the liquid gold (or whatever color you like!) that makes all EK Fluid Gaming PCs shine. Most of our premium EK Fluid Gaming PCs come with clear tubing, meaning you're free to show off your individuality with our custom colored coolant.

We suggest replacing your coolant every year or so, depending on its color and condition. Frequent use of your liquid-cooled PC can lead to air bubbles from evaporation, potentially resulting in coolant pollution, which can impact the performance and efficiency of your liquid cooling loop.

However, it’s always best to check with a supplier to make sure your current motherboard is compatible before committing to upgrades. Remember, it’s also likely that your motherboard might need a BIOS update. The good news, however, is that AMD will roll this update out to add support to the new products before its launch.

When Can I Get the Ryzen 7 5800X3D?

At time of writing, there is no current official word on a specific release date or price. AMD claims that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D will be released in Spring 2022, so hopefully you won’t have to wait too long to add it to your rig.

Unfortunately, it’s probably not going to be cheap to buy this component individually. This is due to it being brand-new technology and the silicone supply issues currently plaguing the PC building industry. When released in 2020, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X cost $449, if selling at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). Of course, AMD is yet to officially announce an individual MSRP, so keep checking back for more updates.

However, despite only being released in September 2020, the 3090 is already getting a hefty upgrade in the form of the upcoming Nvidia RTX 3090 Ti. Nvidia announced this breakthrough in PC engineering during the CES 2022 Special Address last month. Here is everything we know so far. 

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti: Specs and Performance

Details are currently sparse on this brand-new, state-of-the-art GPU. However, during the CES 2022 Special Address, Nvidia all but confirmed that the RTX 3090 Ti will be a GA102 GPU built on the 8nm process. This is very exciting, as the GA102 chip has always been part of Nvidia’s 30-series line, but this is the first consumer-level gaming card to make full use of its capabilities.

This means that, no matter what your favorite game is, this GPU will be able to deliver the most intense, heart-pulsing gaming moments for total immersion like never before. Your dream gaming experience is almost here - capable of delivering high-octane clutches, elevated 4K graphics and multiple real-time ray tracing effects like it was nothing. If you’re looking to take your professional content creation to the next level, this ‘monster’ of a GPU will be able to handle all sorts of audio editing, video rendering and streaming should be a breeze.

Get ready for some stats on this beauty. During the presentation, it was confirmed that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti will have 40 Share teraflops, 78 Ray Tracing teraflops, 320 Tensor teraflops and 24GB of GDDR6X memory operating at 21Gbps.

If that means nothing to you, the main takeaway is that, based on those specs, it’s going to be about 10% more powerful than its predecessor, the 3090. Likewise, the 3090 was approximately 10% more powerful than the RTX 3080. The 3090 Ti is certainly living up to that monstrous reputation! Of course, there is currently no benchmark data to confirm this, so take it with a pinch of salt until confirmed by Nvidia.

However, you’ll allegedly need a staggering amount of power to run this beastly component. MSI listed the card’s expected power consumption at 480 watts. To put it into context, that’s 130 watts more than what the regular RTX 3090 demands. We’d recommend a 1000W PSU to make sure you can handle it.

How Much Will the RTX 3090 Ti Cost?

With those premium power specs and the scarcity problems within the PC building industry, it’s definitely not going to be cheap to buy this component individually. The RTX 3090 costs $1,499, if selling at the manufacturer's suggested retail price. Of course, it’s very rare to see them go for this cheap - resellers can charge you a lot higher than market rate because of how rare they are.

Currently, there is no confirmed release date for the RTX 3090 Ti. Many outlets suggested a January 2022 release, but the month came and went with no official news from Nvidia. Some reports claim that Nvidia has delayed the RTX 3090 Ti launch due to BIOS and hardware issues, whilst others claim production has been paused. Of course, this is all speculation at this point, so take it with a pinch of salt for now.

What Exactly Is RAM?

RAM stands for ‘Random Access Memory’. The easiest way to think about it is that it's your PC’s ‘short-term memory’.

When you launch a game or an application, the hard drive will temporarily send the game information to the RAM. RAM is important for gamers because it means your PC can load applications and games quicker and more efficiently than it can retrieve that information from the main storage disk or the solid state drive. If you don’t have enough RAM, your new gaming PC will struggle to store game information, which could lead to poor performance. In some cases, the game won’t be able to be played at all.

If you are buying a brand-new custom built PC, it is often a good idea to select one that includes the latest technology to future-proof your PC. Whilst it may be more expensive upfront, this will accelerate your workflow and save you from needing to upgrade your RAM sooner than needed.

How Much RAM Should A Gaming PC Have?

At time of writing, gamers should look to have no less than 8GB of RAM. In today’s day and age, 4GB of RAM is simply too weak to run most new-gen titles. 8GB is recommended for casual players, who aren’t looking to play high-intensity games.

Next, if you’ve been in the market for RAM, you’ve probably seen the term ‘DDR’. This stands for Double Data Rate, which means your stick of RAM will operate twice per every clock cycle. Put simply, this means it can recall data quicker.

It’s important to remember that different generations of RAM are not compatible with each other. For example, a DDR4 stick of RAM can’t be read by a motherboard with DDR3 slots. Because DDR5 RAM is so new, it could be tricky to find matching motherboard support. We would recommend sticking with DDR4, which offers incredible performance at a fraction of the DDR5 price.

Finally, you’ll need to pay attention to clock cycles. You can find this measured in megahertz (MHz). This tells you how many cycles the RAM can do every second, which leads to smoother performance and faster recall rates. We would recommend 3200MH, which would run 3,200 billion cycles per second. If you mix and match RAM sticks with different clock cycles, your PC will run at the lowest frequency to avoid damaging the slower sticks, which will throttle performance.

This is where it starts to get tricky. Selecting a power supply can be quite difficult. There are modular, semi-modular, and non-modular power supplies and they all have confusing “80-plus something” stickers on them. They also come in different wattages and it’s up to you, the builder, to figure out just how much is enough for you.

It doesn’t end with wattage amounts. There are more PSU terms out there - peek wattage and continuous wattage. It gets even more complicated when you factor in ‘’power overhead’’, multi-rail PSUs vs single-rail ones, and more.

But there’s good news! We’re going to break down what you need to know and give you a basic understanding of how power supplies work and what to keep in mind when buying one.

3 types of power supplies

All power supplies come in 3 distinct options.

Modular - PSU cables can be disconnected making for easier cable management and cleaner aesthetics. This can in turn make for better case airflow which may result in better PC temperatures.

Semi-modular - Basically the middle ground between modular and non-modular. Some cables can be disconnected while others are permanently attached to the PSU. Usually, these are the 24-pin and 8-pin motherboard cables, which every system requires.

Non-modular - All cables are permanently attached to the PSU making cable management much harder. Non-modular power supplies are perfect for budget builds or builds where aesthetics don’t matter or where there is an easy way to hide the excess cabling.

Peak wattage vs continuous wattage

Power supplies are rated for a specific wattage that they’re able to achieve and hold. Therefore all PSUs will have a continuous wattage and a peek wattage label.

Peak wattage - The highest wattage a PSU is potentially (potentially being the key word) able to achieve under a heavy load for a short duration.

Continuous wattage - A steady load that your PSU was designed to maintain without experiencing issues.

Various online calculators can help you determine how much wattage your PC will need. Once that’s determined, make sure to get a unit that is able to continuously provide the required power over a long period of time.

It’s also not uncommon for more low-end power supply manufacturers to mislabel their PSUs using peak wattage instead of continuous wattage when describing their capabilities. This often results in cheap PSUs not actually being able to provide the advertised wattage over longer periods of time.

To avoid this, use reputable manufacturers so your shiny, expensive, RGB-infused gaming system isn’t powered by sub-par electronics. In doing so, you also avoid lowering the build’s life expectancy as well as potentially damaging components in the event of an unwanted discharge or some similar mishap.

80-plus ratings

Most power supplies today come with something called an “80-plus” rating which dictates the guaranteed efficiency of the PSU.

The term 80-plus stems from the basic requirement of having at least 80% efficiency under 20%, 50%, and 100% loads.

The efficiency of the PSU is measured by the amount of energy that is wasted. By that logic, you must get a steady rate of at least 100 watts of power for every 125 watts that it takes from the socket in your wall. The remaining 25w is wasted as heat.

This is where we finally come to the infamous 80-plus tiers which range from the basic 80-plus rating all the way to 80-plus titanium - with each (similar to ranks in Valorant) requiring a higher level of efficiency (or better teammates).

Higher rated PSUs are made from higher quality components which means it will last longer. It is not a bad practice to opt for a higher price range power supply once and then move it from one build to another.

Single-Rail vs Multi-Rail

Power supplies come in two flavors based on their internal configuration and how the power is delivered to the PC. Your computer has a lot of different components all of which require different amounts of power.

Single-Rail PSU – Components draw power from a single communal power source.

Multi-Rail PSU – Components draw power from individual respective power sources.

So why are there two kinds? The reason is safety and something called over-current-protection or OCP.

OCP is a safeguard designed to prevent the power supply from providing near limitless power to a faulty component which could turn that component into a fireball. As a result, multi-rail power supplies are inherently safer. A single-rail PSU will have all the components share the same power source which could potentially make the PSU burn out without OCP “catching” it.

This is only important for users requring high wattage. If you are using a power supply with less than 600W of rated power, this isn’t a concern.

Now you have all the information and tools to select the right PSU for your build. It can be a bit complicated buying a PSU and probably not as fun as buying a GPU but it is just as important. If you are a competitive player (especially in first-person shooter games), it’s critical that you understand and utilize Nvidia Reflex. As Esports explodes in popularity, the competition is getting fiercer. Unfortunately, raw mechanical skill alone isn’t enough to cut it today. If your opponent has a better setup than you, they could win even if you are technically the better player. We are here to even the odds. 

Why does a better build give my opponent an advantage? 

Aside from skill, three crucial factors can determine a game’s outcome. 

Your graphics card’s frames per second (FPS) - A staple of measuring PC performance, 60 FPS is considered the absolute minimum for it to be competitively playable. Today, high-end PCs can not only reach 60 FPS but exceed that, pushing anywhere from 100-300 FPS depending on the game and hardware. For example, the Conquest 295 offers an insane 438 FPS on Rainbow Six Siege.
 
Your monitor’s refresh rate - If you’ve got a supercharged graphics card, you need a monitor to keep up with it. The old standard 60 Hz monitors are being left in the dust by monitors with refresh rates of 140, 165, 240, and now even 360 Hz. Don’t forget to prevent screen tearing. Learn how when you compare FreeSync vs. G-Sync. 
 
System latency - This is a fancy way of saying how much delay there is between your graphics card and monitor display. Otherwise known as input lag, it measures how quickly your responses register and how long it takes before they appear in-game. 
 
If your opponent has a higher FPS and monitor refresh rate, they’ll see you faster than you see them. Their lower input lag allows them to act on it faster as well. These advantages are, unfortunately, a lethal combination for you. Time to even the playing field with Nvidia Reflex.

How Nvidia Reflex helps

Nvidia Reflex is one of the first real tools for gamers to measure and, more importantly, reduce their system latency. 

Each time a player presses their mouse button, the command goes to the CPU and prepares frames to be rendered by the GPU. Before that happens, the frames are placed in a ‘’render queue’’ where frames wait until the GPU is ready. A render queue ensures that the GPU never has to wait for the CPU, which guarantees optimal performance and increases latency. 

Enter Nvidia’s Reflex. It adjusts the render queue, so the GPU and the CPU are in perfect sync. For example, if part of a game needs more CPU time but is not graphically intensive, it increases the queue. The reverse is also true. If a series of brief graphic scenes rendered on the GPU requires almost no CPU power, the queue is significantly shortened.
 
Nvidia Reflex drastically reduces system latency and makes moves in the game feel much more responsive. Less lag means more wins.

Two options for Nvidia Reflex 

Nvidia Reflex comes in the form of a software development kit (SDK). As the name implies, it has to be implemented by the developers of each game. For now, you can find Nvidia Reflex available in games such as Apex Legends, Call of Duty Black Ops and Warzone, Destiny 2, Fortnite, Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege, and Valorant, with more being added each day. 

Nvidia Reflex can be enabled via the graphic settings menu with two different modes available for implemented games. 

Reflex on: This first mode is self-explanatory and merely enables Nvidia Reflex to improve your game’s response time and minimize lag.

Reflex on + boost: This option is for people with powerful GPUs that can run supported games while staying at low percentages of GPU utilization (60% or lower). As a result of the low percentage, your GPU runs on lower clock speeds to save power. 

Turning on the ‘’+ boost’’ setting will make your GPU run at standard clock speeds no matter what, resulting in further improvements on system latency. Of course, this ‘boost’ comes at the cost of your GPU consuming more power and thus creating more heat and noise. If your build is prone to overheating, it’s worth looking into fully liquid-cooled gaming PCs that will allow you to get the most out of advanced options such as Reflex on + boost. 

Should I use Nvidia Reflex?

Yes! It’s an exciting new tool that helps reduce system latency. It is absolutely worth using and has virtually no downsides. How impactful it is for you depends on your PC specifications (having a more considerable impact on high-end systems) and the games you play. Regardless, it is still a fantastic new feature that gamers can take advantage of for free to bring their gaming to the next level.

When it comes to choosing a graphics processing unit (GPU) for a gaming computer, Nvidia or AMD is the only real choice that is offered to customers in today’s market. Both have been in fierce competition to take over the other by offering more power efficiency, faster rendering, and also proprietary technologies such as FreeSync and G-Sync.

So what is FreeSync? What is G-Sync? And why exactly should you care?

Solving the Problem of Screen Tearing

Well, to explain what these technologies accomplish, we must first take a quick dive into the problem they were invented to solve! That problem is called screen tearing.

Numerous methods to combat screen tearing appeared over the years, but the one most gamers today will be familiar with is the V-sync. It's a well-known option usually found in most games' display or graphics settings, but not everyone knows what it actually does. Depending on the power of your GPU, it sometimes happens that the GPU produces more frames-per-second than your monitor can handle. This will result in the frames being rendered and pushed to the monitor faster than your monitor can display them.

Here V-sync comes in, forcing your GPU to slow down and only deliver the number of frames equal to the monitor's refresh rate. The problem that comes with that is often a substantial amount of input lag you may experience between you pressing a button on your keyboard and the command being delivered in-game.

This problem results from the extra step we just added to the process of GPU delivering rendered frames. The GPU has to double-check that the amount of rendered frames perfectly matches the monitor’s refresh rate, resulting in input lag.

To fix this, we now finally arrive to the G-Sync/FreeSync debate.

G-Sync and FreeSync

Both technologies have the same function. To do what V-sync does without the horrible input lag that often makes V-sync simply not worth using.

Both technologies achieve this is by reversing the way rendered frames are handled and putting the workload on the monitor instead of the GPU. And both FreeSync and G-Sync monitors have onboard chips designed to match the monitor's refresh rate based on the number of frames they receive instead of forcing the GPU to limit itself based on the monitor’s refresh rate.

What’s the Difference Between the Two?

Both achieve the same thing, as already mentioned, but take a different approach to it.

FreeSync uses something called VESA Adaptive-Sync open standard which is non-proprietary - the monitor manufacturers don't need to pay a licensing fee to use it. And this makes FreeSync, well … free. As manufacturers don't need to pay a licensing fee to use FreeSync, FreeSync monitors are often a lot cheaper than their G-Sync equivalents.

Both FreeSync and G-Sync use a variety of means to achieve the desired result, but they both use and need something called a scaler. This is basically a hardware module built into the monitor, which allows the monitor to do what we discussed above. AMD and FreeSync use a scaler build by Realtek, while Nvidia uses their own proprietary scaler exclusive only to monitors with G-Sync (and therefore companies that paid for the G-Sync licensing).

You might wonder why Nvidia invented their own system instead of just using the already developed open standard. Nvidia developed it with a clear benefit in their mind. Having their own proprietary technology means that anyone who uses it must conform to a set of very tight standards, making G-Sync perhaps a somewhat safer consumer option. It’s a common thing found in many popular industries, not just computing and gaming.

With the FreeSync module, a monitor manufacturer might do an extremely awesome job of integrating it – or they might not. They don’t have to pay a fee to use it, and they don’t have to follow as many standards as with Nvidia.

Which One To Buy?

This mostly depends on whether you already have a good GPU or in the process of buying one.

If you already have one from Team Red, then the choice has already been made for you. AMD GPUs only support FreeSync. However, you still have to figure out which FreeSync monitor to get as they vary in quality greatly.FreeSync monitors range from $100 all the way up to $400-500 with 240hz models. Research the market to find a quality monitor that fits your needs and your budget well.

If you're on Team Green, you actually have a choice to make, as Nvidia GPUs support both FreeSync and G-Sync. This has to do with the fact that FreeSync is non-proprietary, meaning that there's nothing stopping Nvidia from supporting both. For this purpose, Nvidia classifies monitors into two categories:

• G-Sync monitors, which use the G-Sync technology and are made with the proprietary Nvidia standard
• And G SYNC compatible monitors meaning they're built on the open FreeSync standard but will also work with Nvidia GPUs.G-Sync compatible monitors, which are built on the open FreeSync standard but will also work with Nvidia GPUs.

Recap: Gaming With FreeSync or G-Sync?

When it comes down to choosing FreeSync or G-Sync, the main difference for most people will be not in functionality but in the GPU choice and the monitor’s price.

Both technologies do basically the same thing and are often basically indistinguishable from one another (especially on the more expensive monitor models). G-Sync monitors are more expensive and come with all the bells and whistles, while FreeSync monitors range in price and what features they support.

Water-cooling has been a prominent subject in computing over the past few years, more so lending itself to high-end, overclocked systems for extreme system users, whether that be for 3D rendering and game design or big data number crunching, and even average system users that have big pockets and like to flex on their setup. With times and technology changing however, Water-cooled gaming systems like the EK Fluid gaming range is becoming an increasingly popular thing. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at ‘Why Water-Cooling?’

What is it?

With the ever-increasing demand for computers to do ‘things’ faster & faster, one of the big bottlenecks in the ability to do this is the generation of heat. Think of it like this, the more we exercise, the hotter we get and the more we sweat. The only difference here is we can sweat, and we can decide to push through to a certain extent or even stop, before our brain says nope and we have to stop or, well, it’s unexpected sleepy time. Now unless I’ve missed a trick in my career in tech, to my knowledge, computers cannot sweat and just like us, if you push it too hard ‘Computer says No’. To keep on the weird analogy of ‘Humans vs Computers’, of which we’ve all seen the films and know exactly how it ends, to make our bodies perform better we have to give it more energy, and that is exactly the same for computers. To increase the ability of a computer you have to give it more energy, or in this case, power, which is a process known as overclocking. As mentioned before, with this process we get a lot more heat, and I can hear you screaming at your screen saying ‘What do we do with this heat Hendo, tell me, what do we do?!’ The conventional means right now is air cooling, it’s cheap, and quite effective, but not when you have lots of heat. More heat means we need more fans and we don’t have unlimited real estate inside a case. It also gets super noisy, especially when your fans are running at an increased RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) and your system sounds like it’s got a 747-engine running inside it. The other option is water-cooling, a series of intricately engineered components and tubing, designed to be attached to parts of your system in order to facilitate the flow of coolant across the components, thusly, cooling them.

Using liquids to cool computer components is not as recent an invention as you may think. Flick back to the early 1980’s and liquids were being used to cool super computers all around the world, with the likes of the Cray-2, Fluorinert cooled super computer. Rather than water, various liquids were engineered to help carry heat away from processors, not really something you can have in your gaming grotto at home, something about potentially toxic liquids and danger, and I don’t think the Cray-2 can run crisis, so it’s pointless. Moving on to the mid 90’s and water cooling in the home had started to become a thing, keen hobbyist Overclocker's rigging up their own homemade pumps, radiators, and tubing to smash out world record processor speeds. Not really aesthetically pleasing, but when the end goal is pure speed aesthetics kind of fall to the wayside.

In the last 10 years or so things have really changed, being the market leading water-cooling brand, we offer a plethora of products and kits to scratch that ‘Do It Yourself’ water-cooling itch. The DIY approach is great fun, I’ve personally enjoyed the skill set and attention to detail I’ve learnt from building liquid cooled systems, but it is a skill that you have to learn by doing, and not everyone has the patience for it. The other aspect to water-cooling is that if you’re new to it, there is a lot of trial and error and that is a terrifying notion when one of your component's alone costs over a thousand dollars. What does this mean to my computer?

I guess an obvious place to start is how pretty they are. A water-cooled system has a huge ‘WOW factor’ and they never get boring to look at. A great example is the EK Fluid Gaming systems with the big reservoir on the front panel and the clean, straight tubing, they really are a beautiful sight, and indicative of the craftmanship involved in building water-cooled systems. The options for customisation are pretty broad too, you can customise the colour of the fluid, with all manner of variants and shades. Then there’s the D-RGB aspect, we all know the drill with RGB colour profiles and all the fun stuff, but with a water-cooled system you’ve got a bunch of extra components that have integrated RGB. Water-cooling really does add a whole new dimension to the customisation options of your system, you can go full on rainbow unicorn, apocalyptic, techno, rave party if you like, although that’s less aesthetic and more ‘all of it because I’ve got it’ which is also fine.... I think. The big seller here is being able to make the centre piece of your gaming setup truly unique, that’s what’s important here, making it as YOU as possible.

Believe it or not, there is also an aspect of longevity and I’d even stretch to cost effectiveness, in water-cooling. You might be thinking I’m going mad here but hear me out. By water-cooling your system, you are using the most efficient means possible at keeping your components cool, right? If that’s the case then I think it would be fair to suggest that this increases the lifespan of your components and means you won’t be buying a new GPU, CPU, and so on, in a few years due to failure. Heat is a big killer of components, especially if you’re pushing your system to its limits regularly, you want to keep them cool to avoid the risk of the great inevitable heat death from smashing high voltages through them. For mainstream overclocking the main contributing factor to component degradation is in fact, heat, most commonly down to bad cooling, but you don’t really need to worry about then when you’ve got the world’s leading component manufacturer building it for you, am I right?

So, amongst all this here is the big deal, the opportunity to increase performance. Let’s face it, this is what we all want, as humans we have this need to have the information faster than before, more frames win games, right? You need the other factors for this too, the monitor that supports the high refresh rates, the skill, the RGB, which are all achievable, but you need the baseline and that’s the system to support that. The whole reason we get new components so often, new systems, and new technology is to bring us closer to getting that data, that design, that invention or even that win faster each time.

What is RGB?

The name itself is simple, as RGB stands for Red, Green, and Blue. As most gamers know, these three different colors can be mixed to create seemingly infinite combinations of colors. 

When you choose the color you wish to display on your LED from your RGB controller, it automatically increases and decreasing the brightness of the three primary colors, so all your LEDs display the chosen color – for example purple.

However, there are so many choices on the market today loaded with specifications and features that it can be difficult to pick the best one for you and your gaming needs. The question is: What should I really look for when shopping for my perfect gaming monitor?

To make the process a little easier, here are a few key things to look for in your quest.

Size

Unless you are an established or aspiring esports professional who needs to see every minute change on the screen, bigger is always better. In terms of video game releases, 2020 was an action packed year. We saw highly anticipated titles from Cyberpunk 2077 and Hitman 3 to DOOM Eternal and Call of Duty: Cold War. Now we are looking towards 2021 to meet our gaming needs and expectations.

4 months into 2021, many exciting games have already been released or marked on the roadmap to the anticipation of millions of gamers worldwide. As far as commercial titles go, this year we’ll have plenty of games to keep us glued to our monitors. Resident Evil Village is slated to horrify players in May, while Deathloop, a time-control challenge, is planned to drop in September. Not to mention, Amazon's foray into MMO games with New World, the shooter epic Halo Infinite, and Ruined King, a role-playing game from the makers of League of Legends.

1. League of Legends Wild Rift - Battle Arena

Earlier, we said we wouldn’t list games such as League of Legends here - but we decided to add this one since it is a spinoff. Nevertheless, a definite contender for one of the most popular upcoming games this year, Wild Rift is a Battle Arena game, set in the League of Legends’ world that features the endless struggle between Noxus and Runeterra.

2. Magic: Legends

Based on the cult board game with probably one of the most die-hard communities (that also spawned its fair share of memes), Magic: Legends will transform the Magic: The Gathering multiverse from playing cards into an online action RPG. Announced back in 2017 and in active development ever since, the Open Beta has been playable on PC since March.

Become a Planeswalker and start playing the Early Access and get on the ground floor of what is sure to become another magical success here.

3. Caliber

From the creators of two incredible titles, World of Tanks and World of Warships, comes a multiplayer online game, Caliber. Set in the stunning Unity engine, it is still to be determined if the game will adopt the recently omnipresent Battle Royale game mode or if it will follow the traditional team dynamic of Call of Duty or Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Maybe it will go in another direction entirely.

What we can be sure of is the tactical nature of this PC-exclusive release, which will focus on gameplay to model modern special forces operations that require teamwork, coordinated movements, and more.

4. Scavengers

Scavengers is a game we’re really excited for, as they approach the issue of boring battle royale gameplay - which consists of hunkering down and waiting it out for the entire midgame - and give it a completely new spin. “Co-opetition” is the name of their PvEvP game mode, where every match presents players with multiple strategies to choose from.

Teams must pursue two objectives - capture more data points than rival teams and, of course, stay alive. How you choose to do that is left completely open. Squads can battle it out against other teams at key points, include AI elements (wildlife, etc.) in their strategy, sneakily stake out opponents, or go at it Mad-Max style with guns blazing.

5. Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis (PSO2: NGS)

A bit different from the other listed games, PSO2: NGS has clear visual roots in anime and is a massive expansion for Phantasy Star Online 2. For those that haven’t played it, PSO2 a free-to-play online action role-playing game with a virtual world that has been around since 2012. Fans of the series can expect a revamped graphics engine, enabling players to create even better characters in a new and larger world together with an upgraded battle system.

The EK-AC GeForce RTX is a full-cover water block designed and developed in cooperation with NVIDIA and it fits several high-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards. This water block directly cools the GPU, RAM as well as VRM (voltage regulation module) as water flows directly over these critical areas, thus allowing the graphics card to reach higher boost frequencies. The loud stock fan gets to be replaced by a slim-line minimalistic water block that will not only make your PC look better, but also make the graphics card perform better. Finally, you will be able to enjoy your favorite games in silence. This water block also comes with a sleek matte black backplate.

To satisfy the fans of RGB LEDs, this water block comes equipped with an integrated D-RGB (addressable) lighting solution, where each LED is individually addressable and controllable through the motherboard RGB software.
